The Customer’s Goals
Our client wasn’t looking to add solar panels, but they wanted to:
- Charge their batteries on cheap, off-peak tariffs and use the stored energy during expensive peak hours.
- Gain the security of off-grid backup power in the event of a power cut.
- Add an EV charger to make the most of smart tariffs and stored energy.
The Equipment
We worked with two trusted suppliers to put together the system:
- Energy Monkey – Victron MultiPlus-II inverter/charger and Victron EV Charger.
- Lynx Power – Gobel Power GP-SR1-PC200 Premium batteries.
The final system included:
- Victron MultiPlus-II 8 kVA inverter/charger – providing seamless switchover, off-grid operation, and grid charging.
- 2 × Gobel GP-SR1-PC200 Premium batteries – 16.5 kWh each, giving 33 kWh of storage with strong discharge capacity.
- Victron EV Charger – enabling smart and reliable single-phase EV charging.
- Victron Lynx Distributor – for tidy, fused DC busbar connections.
Smooth Installation Process
Our process was simple and efficient:
- Site Visit & Agreement – we met the customer onsite, discussed requirements, and agreed a price the same day.
- Procurement – materials were purchased immediately through our suppliers.
- Design - AutoCAD design with strong customer liaison for the perfect layout.
- Installation – we returned to site and completed the full installation in just two days.
To ensure long-term safety and ease of maintenance, we also rewired the supply into a dedicated distribution board. This included a bypass switch, allowing the inverter to be safely isolated for servicing while the property remains supplied from the grid.
