Solar Panel Installation Exmouth

Introduction
When our Exmouth client first reached out, he had a clear goal in mind: reduce his electricity costs and make a smart, long-term investment. After speaking with his financial advisor, he was encouraged to consider solar and battery storage not just as a way to lower energy bills, but as an asset that would begin generating a return over time.
A key requirement from the start was that the panels needed to be discreet. The client didn’t want them visible from the front of the property, and aesthetics were just as important as performance. With this in mind, we designed a tailored system that ticks every box: efficient, future-proof, and visually unobtrusive.
Project Overview
The project began with a modest plan: 6 solar panels across two roof sections, in line with the client’s request to keep the system as discreet as possible. We provided a quote based on that configuration but also explored whether we could optimise the space further. After reviewing the roof layout and shading, we proposed expanding the system to 18 panels, a move that would result in three times faster return on investment and four times greater overall returns.
The client, focused on long-term value and reliability, was keen to use the best equipment available. We designed a high-performance setup that includes:
- 17 solar panels generating up to 7kW
- A Tesla Powerwall 3 with 13.5kWh of storage and a 11.04kW discharge rate
- A home EV charger, allowing excess solar energy to power a future electric vehicle
- Whole home back up, power stays on in a power cut
As requested, the Tesla Powerwall 3 was installed neatly in the garage, ensuring easy access while keeping the unit protected and out of sight. By combining a robust solar array with intelligent storage and EV integration, the client is now well-positioned to generate, store, and use clean energy efficiently, with very little going to waste.
Installation Process
Due to product availability, we carried out this installation in two phases, starting with the roof work and solar panel mounting, followed by the Tesla Powerwall installation once it was delivered. This approach allowed us to get all roofing elements completed in advance, so the system could be commissioned efficiently once all components were on-site.
The full installation took four days, with our team working from 8 AM to 5 PM daily. The crew consisted of two qualified roofers, a certified electrician, and an apprentice, ensuring every aspect of the job was handled by experienced professionals.
To securely fit the panel hooks, we carefully removed the verge, positioned the hardware accurately, and then re-mucked and sealed the verge to restore the roofline. Scaffolding access was arranged and managed by us to keep everything running smoothly for the client.
When it came time to connect the system, we coordinated with the homeowner to agree on a suitable time for the short power-down, which lasted just 30 minutes. The client remained at home throughout the installation.
All wiring routes were discussed and agreed upon before work began, ensuring that the visual impact inside the home was minimal and the client was completely happy with the placement.
After the install was complete, we thoroughly walked the customer through the Tesla app, helping them understand how to monitor their usage, set import/export times, and optimize their system for maximum return. All necessary paperwork, including MCS certification and DNO approvals, was submitted promptly, allowing the customer to begin exporting energy within a week.
Finally, we made sure the site was left completely clean and tidy, returning after the scaffolding was taken down to ensure no debris had been left behind by other contractors.
Key Features & Benefits
This solar and battery system wasn’t just about reducing bills, it was designed to generate a real return on investment and future-proof the home’s energy use. Here are some of the key features and benefits our client is now enjoying:
- Smart Energy Trading:
By combining the Tesla Powerwall with a flexible energy tariff, the client can import electricity at just 6p per kWh during off-peak hours, then export any unused energy at 16p per kWh, creating a daily profit loop while staying powered by renewables. - Free EV Charging from the Sun:
The system prioritizes charging the client's electric car using excess solar generation, effectively eliminating fuel costs and turning sunshine into miles. - Fast Payback, Strong ROI:
Thanks to the system's size, smart controls, and optimal design, the estimated payback time is just 8 years, with a projected total return of £32,645 over the system's life. - Long-Term Peace of Mind:
The solar panels come with a 30-year performance warranty, ensuring strong output and reliability for decades to come. The Tesla Powerwall also carries industry-leading protection and smart features that evolve with software updates.
This system not only cuts costs but also gives the homeowner energy independence, price certainty, and a way to earn from the grid instead of just paying into it.
Results & Client Feedback
Since commissioning the system, our client has seen tangible financial benefits that go far beyond simple bill reduction. By leveraging a smart tariff importing electricity at just 6p per kWh off-peak and exporting excess at 16p per kWh during the day, they now make a profit each year through energy trading. The system not only covers household demand but has effectively become a revenue-generating asset.
The savings extend further with virtually free electric vehicle charging, thanks to the ability to power their EV directly from solar excess. With a projected payback period of just 8 years and a total return on investment of £32,645, the system delivers both financial and lifestyle value.
The client described the system’s performance as "better than expected", and praised our approach as “first class in every aspect of the job.” They chose us based on our reputation, equipment quality, guarantees, and professionalism, and were particularly pleased with the support they received from the initial consultation to the thorough walk-through of the Tesla app, which now helps them easily monitor and manage their energy use.
"Quanta and there team were very professional in every aspect of the job. I highly recommend them - excellent job!"
