Three wind turbines on a green hill under a blue sky
Onshore wind development

Onshore wind, from first look to ready-to-build.

Single turbines and small wind farms across the UK. We check the wind, secure the land and grid, and lead planning.

What we develop

Wind, at the right scale.

Onshore wind is back on the table in England. We help you find out if your site could work.

  • Single turbines

One turbine for a farm, estate or business, using the power on site or exporting it to the grid.

  • Small wind farms

A handful of turbines on good, open land with a grid connection close by.

  • Wind alongside solar

Wind and solar on the same site can share one grid connection. Wind often generates when solar does not.

What makes a good site

Five things we look for.

  • A good wind resource

Open, exposed ground with steady wind. Hills and coasts are often best.

  • Room from neighbours

Enough distance from homes to keep noise and shadow flicker within limits.

  • Close to the grid

A nearby substation or line with room to connect.

  • Access for big loads

Blades are long. Roads and bends must take them, or a route must be built.

  • Few constraints

Clear of airports and radar, and away from sensitive landscapes, birds and bats.

How we work

From wind check to consent.

  1. Wind and site check

We look at wind, neighbours, grid, access and constraints before you commit.

  2. Secure

Land terms agreed and the grid application made.

  3. Surveys and design

Noise, shadow flicker, ecology, landscape and aviation, coordinated by us.

  4. Consent

Our in-house Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) leads the application to ready-to-build.

FAQ

Onshore wind questions

Can you build onshore wind in England now?

Yes. In July 2024 the government removed the planning tests that had effectively blocked new onshore wind in England. Wind is now treated like other energy development in planning.

How far does a wind turbine need to be from homes?

England has no fixed distance. Noise and shadow flicker assessments set how close turbines can be, so every site is designed around its neighbours.

What surveys does a wind project need?

Usually noise, shadow flicker, ecology including birds and bats, landscape and visual impact, heritage, and checks with airports and radar operators. We coordinate them all.

Can wind and solar share a site?

Often, yes. A hybrid site can share one grid connection, and wind tends to generate at different times to solar, making better use of the connection.

Could my land host a wind turbine?

Open, windy land near the grid and away from homes is a good start. Use our free land check and we will tell you honestly.

Got a windy site near the grid?

Tell us where it is. We'll check the wind, grid and planning picture and give you an honest answer.
